collection mapping (context)
Notes:

context is a frame that surrounds the event and provides resources for its appropriate interpretation

records, music, album covers are the COLLECTION (context), the users are kids and the interface is the point of contact for the user and context

if something is missing from the collection => can be a spark

throughout these weeks the process will go from rough to fine

Relevant graphs as example of mapping a collection:
- double diamond
- pyramid of Maslaw
- work by Dunne & Rabby (http://unitedmicrokingdoms.org)
- Raworth's donut
- Borges (garden of the forking paths)
- Engelbrecht
- information is beautiful (website) (infographics)

In class exercise:

Find one or more visual metaphors that can visualise/recontextualize/represent the collection you’re working with, with your user group in mind

What does 100% independent mean? who's funding?
=> NOT funded by the 3 major labels (Sony, Warner, Universal)

major labels => own publishing and distribution
indie labels => long term or smaller contractual partnerships for distribution and publishing

artists, events, merch, sell music

visual = audio (different format)
image Vs content (importance)
look of albums Vs music

NOT image + content = 100%
instead adding "water" in both categories and at the end concluding which one is more full

how do we visualize the context to make it interesting for kids?

jukebox with shape holes for kids
how can it represent the collection?

visual metaphor guides into interface thinking

reconceptualization => turn one thing into another (the other), bring two pieces together

TRANSLATE COLLECTION INTO ENERGY!!

squiggle that is representative of the music they want to hear

TRANSLATE ENERGY INTO SONG

5 second drawing as search(bar) for music
random selection of song based on machine learning through visual sketching
sequential page presentation
energy fluctuation

Tier list of artist energy!!
0-100 energy rating

playlist of all artists' popular songs and "grade" them by energy level (photography competition style)
determine an average energy level of Ninja Tunes
if high energy isn't represented enough (kids are high-energy) then suggest the addition of that to THE COLLECTION

something to test their response
=> maybe high-energy sketch shouldn't represent a desire for high-energy music
Notes:

1. Who are you designing for?

2. What is their relationship to the collection? (How are they or should be related?)

3. Which content are you "interfacing"? (Which part of the collection is the content?)

4. How does the "interface" affect or influence the "user"? (What is the EFFECT? (what comes out of it?))

5. What type of interaction is fitting for this?
6. What type of medium is fitting for this? (intertwined, ex. interaction: VR, medium: virtual exhibition)

7. Which visual language (including typography) is useful or fitting for this? (Is this fitting for kids?)

8. What are you trying to accomplish through the interface you want to design? (Major zoom out)

Design Proposal:
check in moment

- answer design questions
- design proposal page (visual sketch that gives insight)
- a description of the moment of interaction
- mapping page: user & collection
- extra: can show hotglue for more information

try google image search for related image

by week 8 => question answered as clearly as possible and not just verbally (textually)

no physical prototype now
we need VISUAL MATERIAL

Paper, pen, me with phone being the interface

In class exercise:

USER STORIES

As a ........... (stakeholder), I want to ........... (task), so that ............. (desired results)

1. As an aggressive kid, I want to be more relaxed, so that my parents don't make a fuss.

2. As an aggressive kid, I want to draw, so that I can feel more relaxed.

3. As a parent, I want my kid to exert their energy, so that they can be less annoying.

4. As a busy parent, I want my kid to draw, so that they are preoccupied.

5. As a lonely bored kid, I want to do something fun, so that I am not bored and lonely.

6. As a teacher, I want my students to engage in creative activities, so that they can experience personal growth.

7. As a designer, I want to make a tool for kids, so that they can be engaged.

8. As a neighbor, I want to buy my neighbor's kid a gift, so that they don't make as much noise.

9. As a hyperactive kid, I want to exert my energy, so that I feel more calm.

10. As a music enthusiast, I want to listen to music, so that the silence comes to an end.

Notes in association:

kid "profiles" (kid that wants to impress their friends, rebel kid, adhd hyperactive kid)
dada style collage as general aesthetic and practical inspiration
collage nonsensical mix to represent kid thoughts???
something that can be gifted (purpose of the interface)

In class exercise:

- make a visual mood board/collage to give the feel of the connection between user group and collection
- landscaped shaped composition (card/poster)
- visual elements that appeal to the user group
- take one of the stories and try to create a composition based on the story with the spirit of the user and collection to the composition
- synthesis of previous work maybe
- how am I gonna style this?
- visual exploration
